This is the first school year where we could find amateur radio call books that show when Acalanes got their own amateur radio station. It may have been the previous year, but there weren’t any amateur radio call books covering that school year.
Their call letters were WA6AAG. After Las Lomas had the first amateur radio station in the district in the 1950s and Miramonte dominated the 1960s, Acalanes is the first of the three remaining schools to hop on the amateur radio airwaves.
You can find the Acalanes Radio Club in the Fall 1971 and Winter 1971-1972 amateur radio call books.
Fall 1971:
The entry states the following:
B Acalanes Radio Club, 1200 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lafayette 94549
Winter 1971-1972:
The entry states the following:
B Acalanes Radio Club, 1200 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lafayette 94549
The “B” in the entries indicates a club license.
Also, if you look in the 1972 Aklan…
and go to the senior section, then you’ll find three students who are listed as having been in the Acalanes Radio Club during the 1971-1972 school year.
Tracy Richard Christensen:
Acalanes Radio Club 1,2,3,4;
Roger Carl Krueger:
Radio Club 1,2,3,4;
Edward Bayard Rippy:
Radio Club 3,4
