In the 1974 Aklan…
we do not find an entry for the 1973-1974 Acalanes Radio Club.
We do find an entry for the Acalanes TV show in the yearbook.
I really got involved in something interesting this year when I joined the staff of the Acalanes Review, a T.V. show put on by some kids from Acalanes. There were about thirty people on the staff, divided into four sections: art, academia, community interaction, and sports. Somebody told me that the four sections were something started this year as part of a new format. We really uncovered some talent for our art programs, which involved all sorts of student creativity in areas of music, writing, and art. The real serious stuff like “the learning process” and “student development,” were talked about during academia programs. On community interaction programs we had speakers debate community and international affairs, and then discuss how they affected Acalanes. Sports …. well …. we talked about sports, both student and professional. We had meetings every Monday during lunch where we talked about what shows we wanted to have and who was going to be on them. The show came on every Tuesday and the sections were alternated every few weeks for variety. The planning was fun. We could always joke around, and at the same time we got things done. Buffi Lee and Suzanne Colwell directed the show and Scott Cornell was the technical producer. Two teachers, Mr. Mayes and Mr. Mehus, were the faculty advisors.
This is the year that the Acalanes TV Show called the Acalanes Review came to an end. It was short-lived.
While we don’t find an entry in the yearbook, we do find the Acalanes Radio Club in the Winter 1973-1974 amateur radio call book.
The entry states the following:
B Acalanes Radio Club, 1200 Pleasant Hill Rd, Lafayette 94549
The “B” indicates a club license.
That’s all the information on this part that we have at the moment. As with all these posts, please feel free to share any information you might have.
