Lafayette History Rabbit Holes – Acalanes Radio Station KCEQ: Early Wendell Pleis at Scottsbluff High School, Nebraska 1959-1960

In the 1960 Bluff…

we find that Wendell’s duties have expanded.

MR. WENDELL PLEIS is assistant football coach at Scottsbluff College besides sponsoring the projection crew and the Sophomore Class. He teaches Algebra I and III and Trades and Industries. His biggest job is servicing audio-visual supplies to the grade schools and high school.

Unlike the 1958-1959 Bluff that seem to indicate that AUDIO-VISUAL and The Projectionists were two separate entities, this one seems to indicate that they were the same thing.

The Projectionists 1959-1960

The audio-visual club kept busy this year running films, operating spotlights, stage lights and the record player for after-game dances and class parties.

An electric basketball foul indicator was planned, wired and constructed by the group as a special project. Members of the club devote a great deal of time and service to the school and individual classrooms while learning to operate and use the various machines.

Each member of the club must take a test before operating any of the equipment. At the end of the year, each boy receives credits according to the work accomplished.

This year it appears that The Projectionists were moving into electronics by building an “electric basketball foul indicator”. Also, this is two years into them having a “constitution” according to the 1959 Bluff.

The Scottsbluff High School Radio Production program was still around this school year.

Scottsbluff High School Radio Production 1959-1960

Radio Production Group presents school news, music, sports and interviews over local radio stations each Thursday and Saturday.

To train students in the radio field and to teach the fundamentals of broadcasting are the general purposes of Radio Production.

At the end of the year Operation High School is conducted by the group at a local radio station.

That’s all the information on this part that we have at the moment. As with all these posts, please feel free to share any information you might have.
