In the 1961 Bluff…

we find Wendell Pleis still teaching.

Mr. Wendell Pleis teaches general metal and trades and industries. His hobbies are sports, fishing and hunting. Mr. Plek (sic) sponsors Audio Visual Club. His bachelor of science degree was obtained at the University of Nebraska.

This year The Projectionists and Audio-visual are lumped together.

The Projectionists 1960-1961

Audio-visual club performs many services for the school. This includes presenting the noon movies, operating spotlights, stage lights and the record player for the after-game dances and class parties.

Each member devotes a great deal of time operating any of the equipment, and at the end of the year, each receives credits according to the work he accomplishes.

The Scottsbluff High School Radio Production program was still around this school year.

Flashing red light–“On the Air”–programs entitled “Bearcat Tales” beamed across the airways.

This year members of the Radio Production Group spent more time learning the techniques of putting together and actual show, airing it weekly on two local stations and then analyzing it for improvement of subsequent programs.

Early in the year, the members were divided into staffs of continuity, music library, announcing and engineering. A tight little group met twice a week to gather news, select records, prepare scripts and complete the technical necessities which brought improved radio shows from Scottsbluff High to the listening Scottsbluff public.

This year the Radio Production program ended up in the hands of the last teacher to manage it–Bruce R. Minteer.

Mr. Bruce Minteer is kept very busy in his first year at SHS teaching beginning journalism and sponsoring BLUFF, ECHOES, Radio Production and Quill & Scroll. He obtained his bachelor of science in education at the University of Nebraska.

That’s all the information on this part that we have at the moment. As with all these posts, please feel free to share any information you might have.
