In the 1962 Bluff…
we find Wendell Pleis still teaching.
Mr. Wendell Pleis helps George Ferreya prepare an assignment sheet for the projectionist. He was the audio-visual coordinator of the Senior High along with teaching general metals. Mr. Pleis was also the coach for senior high intramural basketball. He is interested in electronics and enjoys hunting and fishing along with all sports.
The Projectionists and the Audio-Visual club continue to be lumped together.
The projectionist crew serves the school by showing films, operating the stage lights, spotlights and the record player at school dances and parties. Since we have been in the new school, the projectionists have been given another task. They have full charge of playing records in the common during lunch hour and after school.
To perform these jobs, the members of audio-visual club must take and pass a test. At the end of the school year each boy receives credits for the amount of work he has completed.
It says that they were tasked with playing records both during and after school. The student-run station at Clayton Valley High School (KVHS) started this way. They commandeered the PA system to play music, then moved onto broadcasting a very small signal that could only be picked up on school grounds before eventually obtaining an FCC license. It’s weird seeing this run side-by-side with the actual Scottsbluff High School radio program.
Members of Radio Production learned the fundamentals of producing an actual show, and analyzing the show to learn from their mistakes for the future shows. To train the students in the radio field and to teach the fundamentals of broadcasting are the general purposes of Radio Production.
Radio Production members also participate in Radio Day, when they take over a local station for a day. Mr. Bruce Minteer sponsors this club.
Radio Production offers the school news to the people of the community over the local radio stations. The high school show entitled “Bearcat Tales” was broadcasted over the air every Thursday afternoon and evening during the school year. On Thursday night they broadcasted from KOLT and on Thursday afternoon from KNEB.
Despite not being listed on the Radio Production page, we find that Scottsbluff expanded their program to include television.
Mr. Bruce Minteer discusses a cutline with BLUFF copy editor Brenda Haun. Mr. Minteer was advisor of both the BLUFF and ECHOES staffs. He also taught beginning journalism and sponsored Radio-T.V. Production. Mr. Minteer was elected president of the Nebraska High School Press Association at the state convention this year.
As with all these posts, please feel free to share any information you might have.
