Lafayette History Rabbit Holes – Acalanes Radio Station KCEQ: Miramonte 1960-1961 Electronics Club

In the 1961 Mirada…

we find that there was an Electronics Club during the 1960-1961 school year.

Not so well known but certainly deservant of recognition is this club, the Electronics Club. Their main project this year is building a closed-circuit television system. They are making large improvements on their amateur radio station, and they have made several field trips to television and radio stations throughout the Bay Area. They have received contributions from these stations amounting to over $7,000 and consider this the best year the club ever had.

The members are listed as follows:

C. Wood
Stephen V. Cantrill
J. Jacobson
Michael G. Kozak
Ken White
Tom Hutton
Richard W. Mowdy
Martin S. Mieger
David H. Stillson
Roger Block
Randall C. Smith

It doesn’t give the name of their faculty advisor. However, F.R. Davis is still listed as teaching “Electronics–Chem. Basic Elect.”

It’s likely he was still their faculty advisor.

If we look at the Winter 1960-1961 amateur radio call book, then we find a listing for the Miramonte Electronics Club that corresponds to the entry in the yearbook.

The entry states the following:

If we look at the Spring 1961 amateur radio (text and full call book), then we find a listing for the Miramonte Electronics Club that corresponds to the entry in the yearbook.

That’s all the information on this part that we have at the moment. As with all these posts, please feel free to share any information you might have.
