Ann grew up in San Rafael. She attended Cornell and worked on Wall Street for a couple of years before she and her husband returned to the west coast and settled in Lafayette. Ann became involved as a volunteer in the schools, and then, through the Lafayette Community Foundation, became part of a small group she calls “the library cabinet” that took on the difficult challenge of raising the funds needed to build a new library. She describes how, for at least three years, the members of this committee were constantly at work on this project. The first major gifts, and of course the winning of the large grant from the State, were huge victories that came after years of planning and effort. Reflecting back on the work of this committee, Ann quotes Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it is the only thing that has.”
