Bob Bru was born in London, England. He was raised, and went to school in New York City. He served as a navigator on a B17 bomber during World War II. He spent the last two years of the war as a POW. After the war, he decided to relocate to the West Coast, and in 1947 he opened a business in Lafayette that he continued to operate for several decades. His business was called Contra Costa Stationers. Soon after, he opened a second store in Walnut Creek, and Bob himself actively solicited business from everyone in Contra Costa County who might need his products and services. “Realtors, auto dealers, and doctors…I knew them all,” Bob says in this March 7th, 2014 interview, which was conducted by Jeannine and Patrick Kikkert.
