Bruce Wood helped to found Lafayette Little League in the early 60s and was a popular baseball coach for many years. He placed an ad in the local newspaper and organized a group of volunteers who went on to be coaches, umpires and fund-raisers, as well as create baseball fields still in use today. He stressed teaching fundamentals to young players and helped many children enjoy long careers in baseball. This is an interview at his home in Lafayette, with his wife Pat helping Bruce remember key details because he suffered from a stroke in early 2017.

Bruce Wood was one of the finest men I knew growing up in Lafayette..a real gentleman
I played Babe Ruth and American Legion for Bruce.
He was a great coach and mentor.
I played for other coaches and played basketball in college and Bruce was easily the best, most organized, detail oriented and positive coach I played for.
I tried to emulate him when coaching my kids sports.
