The Coons were interviewed by Brenda Heppler on February 19th, 2008. They each grew up in Iowa, then moved to Lafayette in 1968 when Dean took a job with Clorox in Oakland. Both became very active in community affairs–he was a member of the Lafayette Community Foundation and she worked professionally in the field of adult education. They were inspired to join the effort to build the new Lafayette Library and Learning Center in its early stages. In this interview they describe how this unique new facility was created through the strong level of community involvement and support that exists in Lafayette, and that it is subsequently creating an even higher level of community involvement in the city.

Now that Chris is no longer with us, it was so good to hear her’s and Dean’s voices. What community gems. Thank you for this oral history.
