Mary Ann Hoisington was interviewed by Mary McCosker on June 19th, 2008 as part of the Lafayette Library and Learning Center project. She grew up in southern California and moved to Lafayette in 1957 when her husband Bill began attending law school in San Francisco. She has been active in community affairs since that time, and she continues to do so today as Lafayette’s Library Commissioner. Two projects of particular interest to her were the City’s incorporation and the efforts, starting in the early 1990s, to replace the 1960s-era library with the 2009 Lafayette Library and Learning Center. She says she was very impressed with the transformative power of the Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium concept, and the city-wide generosity and enthusiasm that helped to create the new library.
