Steve Falk, Lafayette’s City Manager from 1991 to 2018, was interviewed by Brenda Heppler on January 15th, 2009. He describes Lafayette as a community which has, for decades, attracted people who were committed to good schools and to education in general. Soon after arriving, Steve became part of a citizens’ group that recognized that the 1962 library was no longer meeting the needs of the city and that it should be replaced with a larger, multiple use facility. Steve would go on to become closely involved with the project, from the selection of the right location and architect to the creation of the Glen Seaborg Learning Consortium and the victorious campaign to win an $11.9 million state grant. This grant energized the fundraising effort and helped turn the community’s vision into reality.
