Amy Conley and Ryan McDermott

Amy Conley and Ryan McDermott

Amy Conley

Amy grew up in Napa and moved to Contra Costa County so she could attend UC Berkeley where she majored in Philosophy.  Her family loves history, and she and her sister took extra history classes in high school and college so they compete with their father who loved to rant about World War II and the Holy Roman Empire.  She also volunteers at the Napa County Historical Society.  Amy enjoys working in our History Room because it offers a very different environment than in Napa.

Amy is pursuing a career in research and gaining experience in different environments with different procedures which she is finding extremely valuable.

Amy is working in the History Room on digitally preserving photos.  She spends her volunteer time assigning accession numbers, scanning and creating pages on Past Perfect for photographs.  Amy’s technical expertise has been a valuable asset in our cataloguing efforts.

Ryan McDermott

Ryan has lived his entire life in California. He was born in San Francisco, spent the first five years of his life in Petaluma, and moved to Orinda when he was five years old.  He is currently a junior at Miramonte High School.  His internship in our History Room is his second work experience, his first being when he worked at a campground in New Hampshire.  History is his favorite subject so he enjoys the extra time he gets to devote to it while working in the History Room.

Ryan does a variety of tasks as a volunteer:  he files newspaper clippings, scans photos and generally is available to help with whatever needs to be done. He recently compiled some information on the 40th Anniversary of BART. He works on Saturdays during the school year but we’re glad he’s able to help on Tuesdays during the summer months.
